Crisis Communication in Response to a Series of Campus Incidents

In January of 2019, a series of robberies occurred on the University of Houston Campus. Discussion of these events were very prevalent via a number of social media channels. Local news outlets were vigorously pursuing information for stories. Fear of crime was increasing.

This presentation will trace the actions of the University of Houston Police Department in addressing the aforementioned robberies. Secondly, strategies utilized to manage media requests, social media discussions, and perceptions of crime will be offered.
